Hudson River Day Line Steamer Washington Irving

The Hudson River Day line would run from New York City to Albany regularly providing a valuable commuting or travel option to pre- depression era travelers. Faity Tuttle told me a wonderful story last night that she would travel on the Day Line with her children to Hudson New York for $5.00. The expense of gas at that time helped make the decision. They would leave their car in Hudson and drive the remaining country miles to Merwin Lake for the weekends where they all still reside. The small fee included a state room and as one can imagine with the magnificent views of the Hudson Valley accompanied by the music and lively passengers I am sure it made for an unforgettable voyage.
